People eat for so many reasons. There are times even an Intuitive Eater will eat when they are not physically hungry. Sometimes, it just looks so good. Sometimes it’s a celebration. Other times they feel it is “the right thing to do” because someone else made a dish specially for them.
It’s okay!
There is a difference between when an Intuitive and “Diet Mentality” Eater eats when they are not physically hungry.
The “Diet Mentality eater” feels bad, guilty, ashamed, defeated, anxious. They have so many thoughts and emotions going on that they can’t even enjoy what they are eating. All they can do is wish they weren’t doing it. Or, feel like they are” throwing caution to the wind” confirming to themselves that they have no willpower and will never achieve their weight loss/maintenance goals. And then… the vicious cycle begins again. Eat, feel bad, feel defeat, diet, deprive, eat some more.
The Intuitive Eater occasionally eats when they are not physically hungry. Without guilt. Without shame. Without emotions attached to each bite. They will even eat past being satisfaction and become over full at times.
THEREFORE
The Intuitive Eater will probably not “eat just for the sake of eating” very often. It doesn’t feel good. They know the pure satisfaction of eating only when you are truly hungry. Everything tastes so much better. Your body feels so much better. That feeling of being “stuffed” is a feeling they would rather do without.
SO
Next time this comes up for you…go ahead a eat. Observe how you feel. Enjoy the food. DO NOT FEEL THE EMOTIONS.
Know that this is “normal” and is not something that will “push you over the edge” into an eating abyss.
It’s okay to just love food!
