oh my…a piece of pie…

Why does it seem that “everyone else” (i.e. those naturally thin people) can have all the special holiday goodies they desire. Do you think they worry that tomorrow the scale won’t be their best friend? What goes on in their head when confronted with such tempting choices…warm cookies fresh from the oven…hot apple pie topped with real vanilla ice cream…mashed potatoes…egg nog…baked brie drizzled with caramel…
We watch them go for firsts, seconds and dare we see them return again for more?
Guess what? Naturally thin people and intuitive eaters don’t over think about what they are going to eat whether at a holiday party or just relaxing at home with family and friends. If they’re hungry and in the mood for a particular food…they just reach for it and enjoy each bite…the texture…the flavor…the presentation on the plates…
It never enters their mind that they “shouldn’t” eat this or taste that. They realize that they can have that food again at a later time when they are hungry for it. It’s better to feel satisfied and just plain “not hungry anymore” than that “oh my god I’m stuffed”, “take a pin and pop it” feeling. They don’t have an instant and constant dialog going on in their head when they reach for their food. “Will I be bad or good?” “If I eat that piece of pie that looks so amazing what will I think of myself after?” “Well, if I go to the gym for 3 days in a row, then it’ll be okay if I eat it”…”No I can’t, I’ve been so good today”. “Why can ____ have this pie and never gain an ounce”…”I bet I’m gaining a pound just thinking of eating it”…”I really don’t NEED that piece of pie, I have willpower, I can be good”. “How bad can just one piece be?????” And on and on and on and on.
Guess what that naturally thin or intuitive eater thinks about when they see that piece of pie?
“Yum”!!!
That’s it. No big battles. No rationalizations. No conversations going on in their heads…
just “ok”, or “no thank you”.
What a concept!
