I know. I know. If you’ve heard it once you’ve heard it 100000000000 times: “Eat a balanced meal…all the food groups…follow the food pyramid…”
At the core of all “food plans” and balanced meal “suggestions” or “rules” there is the element of fulfilling the needs your body has to optimally perform. This amount of carbs (simple or complex?)…proteins (animal or vegetable?)…fruits (the more or less “fattening” kind?)…
You make yourself crazy constantly attempting to make sure what you put in your mouth is the “right” kind of food.
Essentially, what happens is you are thinking of food (what kind? how much? when to eat it? how was it prepared? should I eat it? now? or later?).
You become consumed with thing of food all day, every day.
When you let go and allow yourself to slow down and listen to what your body is whispering (because sometimes it really is a soft whisper), you will actually be giving yourself the gift of being free to live your life…do things…plan things…experience things…appreciate things other than food.
The most amazing thing is when you become a true intuitive eater you will generally be eating a very balanced set of foods. If you check in with yourself at the end of a week you will find that you have “hit” all of the “food groups” without attempting to do so. You will also see that your food choices have become “healthier” because those are the foods that make you feel better.
Let that old adage go…
You intuitively know how to eat balanced meals. Trust yourself.
