What are SUPERFOODS?
Here are some SUPERFOODS you might want to experiment with…
ACAI
acai is a small dark purple berry and a great source of antioxidants and vitamin C as well as other micronutrients like polyphenols and flavonioids.
use frozen or powdered or dried in shakes, smoothies and added to seeds for a great homemade trail mix.
CACAO (RAW CHOCOLATE)
most commonly used to make cocoa, chocolate and cocoa butter. is high in iron and magnesium. an excellent source of dietary fiber as well as antioxidants. cacao contains theobromine which is an amazing chemical that works like a “natural prozac”. you will find cacao powdered or nibs form. add to dessert sauces, smoothies or shakes.
CAMU-CAMU POWDER
this red berry contains more vitamin C than a single orange. this powder also contains beta-carotene, potassium, antioxidants, amino acids and phytochemicals. add this powder to smoothies, shakes and any sweet dessert.
CHIA SEEDS
chia seeds are a good source of essential fatty acids and are an easily digestible protein. they also contain great antioxidants. add to smoothies, shakes or desserts. chia seeds act as a thickener for any sauce and have zero flavor.
GOJI BERRIES
these red berries have 18 amino acids and include all of the 8 essential amino acids. they are a good source of protein, the good fats, soluble fiber, vitamins and minerals like vitamin A,B2,C,E, iron, phosphorus and beta-carotene. the goji berry comes dried or frozen and add great taste to smoothies, shakes, and trail mixes.
GREEN POWDERS
these powders usually contain amazing sea vegetables and spirulina which are very high in proteins, B and C vitamins and minerals including iodine, iron and calcium. green powders are good allkaline sources and also contain live enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants. these powders can be added to smoothies and shakes.
HEMP SEEDS
hemp seeds contain all of the essential amino acids and are a complete plant based protein great for vegans. these seeds are good sources of essential fatty acids which promote good brain and heart health. add hemp seeds to smoothies, shakes, salad dressings and sauces. can be ground or used whole.
MACA
maca is a root vegetable that boosts stamina and fights fatigue and innable the body to handle stress in a healthier way. combine maca with cacao or chocolate. it adds a taste similar to espresso.
MULBERRIES
mulberries are a dried purple berry containing calcium, vitamin C, fiber, iron and resveratrol which is a powerful antioxidant. these berries taste somewhat like licorice and are sweet so they are great additives to shakes, smoothies, trail mixes and desserts.
SEA VEGETABLES
all sea vegetables like arame, hijiki, nori and wakame are highly nutrient-dense sources of vitamins B and C, minerals including calcium, iron and magnesium. sea vegetables also contain soluble and insoluble fiber as well as omega-3 fatty acids. these vegetables supply great protein for vegans. sea vegetables uses are endless but include uses in soups, salads, sushi dishes or just plain and crispy as a snack.
