“They” say we sometimes reach for food for comfort. Usually we don’t even know that we are feeling uncomfortable, happy, sad, anxious, mad, bored.
Feel the feelings. We are not used to really feeling our feelings. Usually we are too busy. Sometime we are afraid of what we might find. Other times we don’t really know what might be bothering us. We are so used to glossing over our emotions. We don’t want to hurt. It is okay to hurt. It is okay to feel. We will only begin to heal when we explore what we think and feel. Resolutions, understanding and forgiveness will begin to emerge. Feel the feelings. Stop for a minute once in a while. What are you feeling? Are you possibly pushing down your past with the comfort eating? Just like a “first day at a new job” is the only “first day” you will have…beginning to feel your feelings will only be hard or painful or curious at first. “When we know better we do better”. Learning to confront ourselves and question is a skill that has to be practiced. Be patient.
