As a child, you probably didn’t have many choices about the food that you ate. You were too young to drive to the store and purchase the food. You didn’t have an income. You weren’t allowed to cook. Some of us couldn’t even eat what we wanted or even when we were hungry. Many times we couldn’t eat how much we desired or ask for a larger or smaller portion. Sometimes your tastes were considered and other times you were forced to eat what was placed in front of you or wait until the next meal.
Pretty restrictive. Pretty dictating. What did this do to us? It taught us to ignore our natural ability to feed ourselves as the unique individuals that we are. We were always someone’s puppet. Our parents, our school cafeteria, our diet plan counselor.
Guess what? You no longer have to be anyone but yourself. Be kind to yourself. Nurture yourself. Smile and feel comfortable with yourself. Fulfill yourself. Give yourself what you really want. Learn to enjoy the satisfaction it will bring.
Now that you are learning the tools of Intuitive Eating, you can break free from those chains of control. You are in control. You are a grown up now. You can eat anything that you want!
