Think about this in the new year. Remember it. Live it.
Life happens. It’s a fact. There are so many things that happen during your day that are not in your control. The weather. The traffic. Someone else ‘s mood. How much work was piled on your desk. What other people “expect” of you. What television shows are on or the music that a DJ chooses to play at any given time.
What DO you have in your life that is under your control?
The REACTIONS to situations. You ALWAYS have control of that. No outside source can really influence how you react to things during the day. Some may try, but you have the power to accept or reject any feelings that are not your own!
As you begin to care and value yourself more, you will not allow negativity in. You will prefer and love the feeling that you carry around of being mindful,positive and hopeful. Most of our parents told us that we “can be anything we want to be”. If you set your mind (re-set, really) to working on seeing that glass half full more of the time, you will continue to make conscious and healthy decisions for yourself. Each healthy decision builds on itself and becomes our natural response.
Remember that book “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff”? Take that title to heart. Most challenges in our lives are really small ones. We tend to make them larger,more daunting and so much more full of drama. We need to take a step back and tackle one thing at a time. Nobody is perfect. Give yourself a break. Feel your accomplishments.
You always have the control to improve, learn and trust.
You CAN do anything.

quinoa (red and regular) – cooked
chopped fresh organic tomatoes
chopped organic scallions
(optional) – chopped organic cucumber
(optional) – chopped organic celery
(optional) – chopped organic carrots
(optional) – chopped organic radishes
cook quinoa:
use 2 cups liquid (vegetable broth) to 1 cup quinoa.
measure quinoa.
rinse thru strainer.
place in pot w/organic vegetable broth.
cover.
bring to boil and immediately reduce heat to simmer.
simmer quinoa for 15 minutes.
remove quinoa from heat, uncover and cool.
mix quinoa and chopped veggies in a large bowl.
excellent just as is.
or
drizzle w/freshly squeezed organic lemon juice
and
dash sea salt and organic pepper
(or any dressing of your choice).

2 c. vanilla rice milk (or vanilla or chocolate silk soy milk)
1 tsp. real vanilla extract
2-3 tbs. (or to taste) agave (or any sweetener of your choice)
small amt. of stevia (to taste)
2 tbs. instant coffee crystals
1-2 tbs. cocoa powder (i use green & black’s organic)
approx. 1 tbs. cocoa nibs (raw unsweetened chocolate nibs)
1-2 scoops vanilla (or chocolate) rice protein powder
blend all in blender for approx. 1-2 minutes.
can drink as is.
OR SO MUCH MORE FUN IF:
you put shake into ice cube trays (i use silicone type-easier to use).
freeze.
yummy to “scrape and eat” while watching TV, etc.!

Choose your legacy.
I truly used to think that my “headstone” would read:
lori ellen
she dieted…
she was hopeful…
she failed…
she felt “less than”…
she thought she was weak…
she read self help books…
she got inspired again…
so, she dieted…
and failed…
tried again…
failed…
she felt her weight “defined” her…
she knew there was more to life than “dealing with your weight”…
somewhere deep down she knew she was worthy…
so, again…
she dieted…
failed…
UNTIL
she “got it”.
and then she smiled 🙂
and vowed to “pay it forward”.

Thanksgiving week is the BEST time to begin or renew your journey with becoming a natural Intuitive Eater!!!
“Everyone else” talks about how ‘stuffed and full’ they feel after eating their Thanksgiving Meal.
You can step out of that ‘traditional’ box and proclaim your freedom.
Freedom from the overeating food trap.
Freedom from the overeating mind trap.
You can eat what you love and stop the madness!
This is the BEST time of year to embrace Intuitive Eating!
Eat slowly.
Eat ONLY what looks YUMMY to you.
Chew each bite with intention.
Enjoy the people at the table.
Enjoy the conversation.

“I’ll do it tomorrow.”
“I’ll think about that later.”
“I’ll figure it out some other time.”
“Not today, I’m so stressed.”
“I can’t face that now, I just can’t.”
“If I really let myself feel my pain, frustration, disappointment, or fear, I’m afraid.”
“Afraid I’ll never stop crying.”
“Afraid I won’t know what to do.”
“Afraid I won’t know how to get the answers.”
“Afraid I’ll feel so out of control.” “What if…what if…what if?”
Be with yourself today.
Be present in the moment.
Later is just one second later than now!
You are stronger than you think.
You have been unconsciously postponing feeling your feelings.
Practice.
Sit with yourself.
Trust.
Feel.
If you need to talk to someone – a friend, a family member or a professional, do it!
When you hear yourself say “I’ll do it tomorrow”, challenge yourself to “do it today“.

A wonderful client of mine recently coined the phrase “because Lori said so”. She said that she uses this phrase when she wants to practice making a change in behavior or thinking towards the ultimate goal of body acceptance and fulfillment.
She asked that I pass this along to all of you. She said there will always be times that it won’t much matter what the long drawn out explanation of a request or thought would be…she said it should roll off our lips (even my own!), kind of like when the answer to the question “why”? and the answer “just because” seems so right!
I told her that I liked that idea and found that it was just possible that in order to sum up the thoughts, suggestions, insights and new ideas you might hear from me or incorporate into your journey towards Intuitive Eating – listen in your head to the words that I might have said to inspire you to “make the right choices”. Your “right choices” will be about anything you do that will make you feel your best and aid in you becoming stronger about nurturing yourself and banning any negative self-talk in your own head.

small amount olive oil
1 lg. onion – chopped
2 tsp. chopped garlic (fresh or from jar)
1 can black beans
2 pkg. frozen cooked shrimp (partially thawed/tails removed)
3 lg. or 10-15 cherry tomatoes – chopped
1 yellow bell pepper – chopped
3 lb. scallions – chopped
1 c. frozen white corn
2 shakes cayenne pepper (or to taste)
3-4 shakes red pepper flakes (or to taste)
4-5 shakes mexican seasoning (or to taste)
tortillas (whichever kind you prefer – I like the Ezekiel sprouted grain)
1 c. jack cheese or Follow Your Heart brand soy jack cheese – shredded
optional:
lettuce – chopped
avocado – chopped
sour cream or Follow Your Heart brand vegan gourmet sour cream
pre-heat pizza stone in oven set to 450 degrees.
saute in pan w/small amount olive oil:
onion, garlic, scallions and seasonings until slightly browned.
add rest of ingredients and saute until caramelized and mixed.
assemble pizzas:
top tortillas w/shrimp/veggie mixture.
sprinkle small amount of shredded cheese on top.
place on pizza stone.
bake until bubbly (approx. 5-6 minutes) *keep checking oven to make sure pizzas do not burn*
can eat as is or can top w/some lettuce, avocado and/or sour cream.

add to a soup pot:
1 onion, chopped in large chunks
1 lb. fresh spinach
1 can black beans with liquid
1 cup dried green peas
1 cup dried black or green or red lentils
1 1lb. package small carrots
freshly ground pepper
approx. 1/3 c. Kirkland (Costco brand) no-salt seasoning
2 large boxes 365 Brand (Whole Foods brand) veggie broth
cover and bring to hard boil over high heat.
lower heat to medium and cook for approx. 30-45 minutes.
with slotted spoon, remove a good portion of all of the “goodies” in the soup to a large bowl; set aside.
blend remaining “goodies” and broth in the pot with an Immersion Blender (hand blender).
add back all of the “goodies” from the bowl into the soup pot.
now you’re done!

My mom sent me this last week and thought it was worth sharing!!!
“In my next life I want to live my life backwards.
You start out dead and get that out of the way.
Then you wake up in an old people’s home feeling better every day.
You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day.
You work for 40 years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement.
You party, drink alcohol, and are generally promiscuous, then you are ready for high school.
You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play.
You have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born.
And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa-like conditions with central heating and room service on tap, larger quarters every day and then Voila!
You finish off as an orgasm!”
